Danny was a close and loyal friend to Steve and myself in our younger days. He and Steve worked together at Mr. Cocke's TV repair shop, and had many band practices upstairs. Steve became Danny's 'brother' during his last HS year, after the Kells moved to Missouri. These guys were inseparable during that time, playing music together and enjoying youth. As bandmates and friends, they experienced the changing times of the 60s and 70s, and all the good music that came with it. Local musicians recognized Danny's many bass guitar talents. He played in a number of bands (LLP, Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness) with Steve and others. In 1976, we lived downstairs from Danny and Kathy for most of one year, and enjoyed their company and the arrival of their firstborn son. Danny will always be remembered as a highlight of our time in Bedford and his close friendship with Steve.

When my family moved back to the US after spending 3 years in England (1967-1970), we moved to Bedford, VA, where I spent my senior year of high school.
Danny Cocke was one of the first people I met and we became very close friends. He was kind, gentle, deeply philosophical, the consummate hippie, and a fierce bass player.
While my interest in music was kindled in England, Danny poured gas on the flames, and to this day I thank him for his guidance. To this day, he remains a profound influence on me.
There are just a few truly great people that never become famous or become popular “thought leaders”, but I was privileged to know such a person. Danny, you were great. And probably, I never told you, but I know that if I had, it wouldn’t have mattered either, because you were humble in your greatness.

Danny will be missed by all of his family. He was a special cousin of mine. I always enjoyed being around my cousin Kathy and cousin Danny. We had a lot of memories when we especially went to our grannys get togethers I always enjoyed watching their boys Clifton and Bryan grow up. I will never forget when we was at Kathys sister Teresa and them coming around us with them ol black snakes wrapped around their shoulders. Now Clifton has two handsome little boys that remind me so much of Brian and Clifton. Danny will be still looking down over his family. He left his family with a terrible disease called c-a-n-c-e-r L know he suffered bad at the end but my cousin and his wife handled it. Jesus knew that he must take him home because he had struggled enough. I will miss Danny and so will his family.Kathy i want yu to know that i will be praying for you every day and any time yu want to talk please call me. I now live in Douglas Arizona but my heart will be with all of yu. Love all of yu.
