William Charles King, Sr., 82 of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the V.A. Medical Center, Salem. He was born on Sunday, November 7, 1937 in Washington, DC, a son of the late Joseph E. King and Madeline Baney Cambrey King. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Lelia Virginia Ruff King and Hazel Stump King. He was U. S. Navy veteran having served on the U.S.S. Intrepid from 1955 - 1959, was laundry supervisor at the Old Hotel Roanoke, Construction foreman at Big Walker Mountain Tunnel, was a dry cleaner owner in Roanoke, a carpenter, rock mason and wood design maker. He is survived by a son, William King, Jr & his wife, Dawn; his sisters, Dawn Johns and Marie Johnson; grandchildren, Joshua King, Christine King, Nicole Wilson and Robin Dooley; five great grandchildren; his stepchildren, William & Kathy Ruff, Dorothy & Wayne Gordon, Danny & Jeanette Ruff, Glen & Dreama Ruff, Tommy & Cindy Ruff, Johnny Ruff; Diane Alexander, Tommy & Debra Stump & Danny Stump as well as seventeen step-grandchildren and sixteen step-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Greenwood Cemetery on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 11:30 am with Pastor Earl Ragland officiating. There is no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
