Gladys Coutts Parker, 90, of Lynchburg, formerly of Bedford, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011. She was born October 13, 1920 in Richmond, the daughter of the late Rody and Laura Coutts. She grew up in Sandston and moved to Bedford in 1954 where she lived until moving to Lynchburg in 2006. She was a member of Staunton Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother George "Brother" Coutts. Survivors include two sons and one daughter, Robby Parker and wife Cindy of Keeling, Laura Ann Leftwich and husband P. D. of Harrisonburg, and Bill Parker and wife Vida of Moneta; two additional daughters, daughter-in-law Sandra Parker and "adopted" daughter Nancy Burgess; seven grandchildren Michael Parker, Michelle P. Mullins, Tammy P. Webster, Shane Parker, Stacey L. Washington, Paul Leftwich and Justin Parker; step grandson Davin Riffe; great grandchildren who lovingly called her "Grandma G", Travis Parker, Zachary and Brittney Webster, Kayla and Eli Mullins, Ryan, Emily and Lydia Washington, and Adella and Penny Leftwich; step-great-grandchildren Jonathan, Kaylee, Colin and Miranda Riffe, Michelle Henley and Zachary Worex; and "adopted" grandchildren Erin and Zachary Burgess. The family would like to thank the staff of Odd Fellows Home in Lynchburg who loved her as their own family, and Dr. Driscoll and the staff in the Pulmonary Unit at Lynchburg General. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 3 pm at the Staunton Baptist Church in Huddleston with Dr. Frank Schmitt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm Monday at the Updike Funeral Home in Bedford.
