Fannie Long Holliday, 101 of Goode, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020 at her residence. She was born on Sunday, March 2, 1919 in Jamesville, NC, a daughter of the late Andrew Mayo Long and Mamie Modlin Long of Jamesville, NC. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Shepherd Holliday, her brothers, William Long, Monnie Long, Andrew Long, Jr. and her sisters, Marie Long Watson and Mamie Clyde Long Gardner Fisher. Fannie attended a two room school house named Lilly School through 4th grade. That school closed and children were send to Jonesville when buses were provided. She completed 10th grade there and at age 50 went to Martin Community College and completed her high school education. She worked at Church Street School as Cafeteria Manager for 18 years and enjoyed every day being with the teachers and children. She was transferred to Jamesville-Williamson High School and was there 12 years as cafeteria manager. She retired in 1984 and then accepted a job at Martin General Hospital as Cafeteria Manager and was there for 8 years. She was also cafeteria manager at Roanoke Christian Service Camp in the summer for 18 years. She joined Macedonia Christian Church at age 18 and was very active in working when and where she was needed. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid, which had many projects making money to help build our brick church. Fannie was well known for her apple jacks and cinnamon rolls and published a cookbook in 2009 In January 1995, she moved to Goode, VA to be near her daughter, Janice & family. She has made it her home and made many friends in Goode but she remained close to Martin County and Macadonia friends. They were always close to her heart. Her daughter, Kay & husband, Larry live in Southport, NC and have always been a big part of her life as well. She is survived by her daughters, Janice Whorley DeMasters, Kay Jones & husband, Larry; her sister, Maxine Milligan & husband, Dewey; her brother, Cecil Long & wife, Dee; her grandchildren, Brad Whorley & wife, Wendy, Beverly Whorley Williams & husband, Randall, Shelly Duprey & husband, P.J., Jon Jones & wife, Amanda, Chris Jones & wife, Kayln; her great-grandchildren, Zach & Austin Duprey, Everett Jones, Monica Lones & husband, Bradley, Amanda Austin & husband, Adam, Dr. Catherine Booker & husband, Brandon, Jacob & Alex Williams as well as her great great grandchildren, Raeleigh & Skylor Austin, Katie, Kendall & Ashton Lones, Henry & Gordon Booker, Ridge & Sadie Jones, Ema Duprey. The family requests that those wishing to maker memorials to consider Macadonia Christian Church, 7640 Highway 17 South, Williamston, NC 27892, Lakewood Baptist Church, 2649 Sunburst Road, Evington, VA 24550 or the Goode Lifesaving Squad, P. O. Box 178, Goode, VA 24556. A private family graveside will be held at the Martin Memorial Gardens in Williamston, NC . with Rev. Dan Manley, Larry Jones, Rev. Greg Sexton & Rev. Dolan Baker officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
