Rose Marie Short of Bedford, VA passed away unexpectedly at her home on December 9, 2020. She relocated to Bedford in 2017 from Livermore, CA. She was a member of Bedford Baptist Church, Bedford, VA. Rose Marie was born in Arlington, KY to Wiley and Garneda Goad. Her family relocated to California in her youth. She graduated from Livermore High School, class of 1957. Rose Marie met the love of her life and married William (Bill) Short in 1959. As an adult Rose Marie worked for the Department of Energy, retiring from the V.A. Hospital in 1996. Rose Marie was very active in the Masonic Community. She joined Job’s Daughter’s as a teen, being a charter member of Bethel 232, Livermore, CA. She became an influential part of Job’s Daughters International as an adult, servicing as Bethel Guardian, of Bethel #232 Livermore, Deputy Grand Guardian of the State of California, Grand Guardian of the State of California in 1998, Supreme Deputy to the Philippians and Supreme Guardian of Job’s Daughters International 2012/2013. She was also a member of Semper Fidelis Chapter #135, Order of the Eastern Star, Livermore, CA for 60 years. Rose Marie loved her family and friends and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with each of them. Her face would light up with joy whenever her grandchildren or great-grandchildren called or came to see her. She enjoyed traveling wherever she could, she also had a love for music, and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Garneda Wooden and Wiley Thomas Goad; her mother and father in-law, Evelyn and Hubert Short and her husband William Warren Short. She is survived by her daughter Garneda Skinnell, her husband Ken of Bedford, VA; son Randol (Randy) Short of Martinez, CA; grandchildren Haley (NeChole) Skinnell and finance Shaun McClure, of Charlotte, NC, Justin Skinnell of Grants Pass, OR, Riley Cooper and Morgan Jo of Martinez, CA; her great-grandchildren Joshua James, Laurryn Olivia, Averie Rose and Isabelle Riley; her brothers Ted Goad and wife Linda of Pleasant Hill, CA; Tom Goad and wife Susan of Lodi, CA, bother-in-law Terry Short and wife Michelle of Sunnyvale, CA, as well as her nephews Jeffery Goad his wife Marah and their son Wiley Augustus, Andrew Goad, Michelle Goad, Mary Winter and husband Andy and Thomas Goad, Jr. A private graveside service will be held in California at Memory Gardens, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Covid allowing a Memorial / Celebration of Life Service will be planned at Bedford Baptist Church after the first of the year. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bedford Christian Ministries or Bedford Humane Society.
