Emma Walters Huddleston, 88 of Bedford, passed away Tuesday morning, March 15, 2011 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on Monday, October 30, 1922 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Charlie L. Walters and Cora Elsie Adams Walters. She was a lifelong resident of Bedford County and along with her late husband, Woodrow, contributed greatly to Flint Hill Bapitst Church, as well as to many county charities. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Emma got her drivers license at the age of forty-two and after that, her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate and was employed at Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital for twenty-five years. Surviving is her daughter, Regina Huddleston of Bedford and a brother, Gene Walters of Roanoke. Emma would prefer that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to the Bedford Humane Society, P. O. Box 1293, Bedford, VA 24253. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Wayne Murphy and Rev. Larry Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 PM until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
