The spring will come, and then and in every season that follows I will remember those hours with you. We were young and very likely not so wise as we might have thought. We camped in winter, we might have fished but did not. I will always remember you and treasure your kindness.

Got to know Bob through his dating and marrying my best friend.
Started off being intimidated by his intellect but found out quickly that he was down to earth and not at all intimidating. I became in awe of his ability to see the most minute detail of our awesome earth and all its' contents and cultures. I started to see things as I never saw them before because of his curiosity and awe that was innate in him. Soon I was a student of Bob. I watched nature as I never did before. Also, I started giving him my special nickname (inside joke) of "Bobby Boudreaux" because of all things Cajun that he loved from his years at LSU.
Then he became our friend and family (my husband and I) not only because he married my best friend but because he stole our hearts. Bob gave Cynthia opportunities to travel with the best travel tour guide but he gave her his devoted love that many will never know. We will miss Bob and remember that he gave much more than he took and that makes Bob so special that he left a mark that so few do. Will miss you until we meet again Bobby Boudreaux.

I met Bob on a River. Much of our decades of interaction since that time was out of doors, fishing and floating, or in a bar.
Our last contact before he retired and left Washington was in his old blue canoe on the Yakima River at the confluence of the Teanaway River, a rogue wave caught us unprepared and Boom, we’re swimming. We managed to save the fly rods so it was a good day. You always caught fish with Kuhlken!
Bob and I could talk for hours and never revisit a topic, it was sinuous.
I was the beneficiary of Bob’s prolific reading of good western literature-he passed the best along to me.
I am grateful for our friendship and I will miss him.

A kind, big teddy bear that was gifted and talented in sailing, music, horticultural, and ornithology. He lovingly cared for nature and the environment, He knew every bird’s song and would stop to listen each time he heard one-singing, making sure you could hear it too. He loved the creation around him and studied the waterways so that future generations could enjoy them and fish could thrive. He was gallant in his battle for life and loved his family. He will be missed.
