Obituary of Irene Robertson Skinnell

Irene Robertson Skinnell, 93 of Bedford, VA passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on Wednesday, December 28, 1927 in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late John Munford Robertson and Ollie Green Carwile Robertson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Robert Brown Skinnell, her son, Carlton L. Skinnell and her sisters, Alpha Robertson Payne Ware and Iva Robertson Childress Johnson. She was a graduate of E. C. Glass High School, Class of 1945 and worked for Morton Manufacturing until her first son was born. She retired from Newport News Shipbuilding with twenty-two years service. She is survived by her son, Carroll Skinnell of Bedford and her granddaughter, Bonnie Ewing of Kiowa, Colorado. A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Rock Chocklett officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
