Elsie Amos Johnson, 76 of Bedford passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 12, 2021. She was born September 4, 1944 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late James Alfred Amos and Fanny Estel Agee Amos Bowyer. She was also preceded in death by a son, David Johnson, a sister, Iris A. Witt and a half-brother, Ricky Lane Bowyer. She was retired from Bedford County Public Schools as a bus driver and had previously worked most of her life at Rubatex Corporation. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Cecil B. Johnson; her children, Cindy Edwards & husband, Scottie, Darryl Johnson & wife, Tina, Diane Kennedy & husband, Mike; five grandchildren, Ashley Overstreet, Brandon Johnson, Taylor Kennedy, Lauren Kennedy, Sierra Dubbeld; two great grandchildren, Tyler & Colby Overstreet; two brothers, James A. Amos, Ivan Amos; her sisters, Carolyn Overstreet, Betty Goff, Brenda Arrington, Tammy Schriffer-Lowe. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Elsie be made to Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3234 Timber Ridge Road, Bedford, VA 24523. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Phillip Kelley officiating. There is no visitation. The Johnson family and Updike Funeral Home requests that in accordance with CDC guidelines, please follow social distancing and wear your mask while at the service. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
