Ethel Gowen Hackworth, 84 of Evington, passed away Monday, February 22, 2021 at the Appomattox Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on July 21, 1936 in Campbell County, a daughter of the late Wilson Rodwell Gowen and Stella Vivian Yeatts Gowen. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelby Jean Bond, her brothers, R. Burnell Gowen, Robert Gowen, Fred Gowen; her sisters, Kathleen G. Slough, Geraldine G. Matthews, Lorraine G. Denton, Hazel Arthur, Shirley Ferrell; father-in-law, Roy Hackworth, brother-in-law, Allen Hackworth. She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Arnold Gray Hackworth, Sr.; her sons, Ronnie G. Hackworth, (Judy Newby, deceased) Arnold G. Hackworth, Jr & wife, Debra; three daughters, Brenda H. Thurman, Sandra H. Clark & husband, Chester, Linda H. Karl & husband, Doug, Sr.; her brothers, Clarence Emmett Gowen, James H. Gowen, Lester Wayne Gowen; her sisters, Dalphine G. Cash, Margaret G. Owens, Gloria Jean Peaks; her brother-in-law, Billy Hackworth as well as nine grandchildren and eighteen surviving great great children and one deceased great granddchild. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Altavista Memorial Park. There is no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
