Dorothy Overstreet Cooper, 88 of Moneta, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Carriage Hill Retirement Home. She was born on Wednesday, April 26, 1922 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Allen Ballard Overstreet and Lillie Maude Hicks Overstreet. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. H. L. Cooper; daughter, Marie Overstreet; sisters, Lola Overstreet, Melva Williamson, Mary Carter, Bernice Wheeling, Reba Overstreet and Brothers, Lorenzo Overstreet and Wilbur Overstreet. She was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church. Surviving is her sister, Irene Carter of Franklin Co., and several nieces & nephews; her step-sons, George N. Cooper, Sr. & wife, Margie of Moneta, Bobby J. Cooper & wife, Shirley of Vinton; her step-daughters, Louise Harris of Elon, Peggy Friend of Lynchburg; and a step-daughter-in-law, Goldie Cooper of Roanoke. Special thanks are extended to the staff of Carriage Hill for their kind and loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 304, Charlottesville, VA 22901. Funeral services will be held at the graviside at Diamond Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11 AM with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. There is no visitaiton at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
