James Iley Martin, 76 of Moneta, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at his home. He was born on Thursday, January 3, 1935 in Bedford County, a son of the late Thomas Wilson Martin and Vernie Walker Martin. He was retired from Precision Fabrics after thirty-nine yeras and was a member of Chamblissburg Baptist Church. He was also a U. S. Army veteran. Surviving is his wife of fifty-four years, Susie Marie Mitchell Martin; three daughters, Wanda Hansford & husband, Ray of Roanoke, Brenda Goad & husband, Bobby of Moneta, Donna Wines & husband, Willie of Catawba; three sons, Ronnie Martin & wife, Deborah, Terry Martin, all of Moneta, Jeffrey Martin & wife, Robin of Bedford; a brother, Kyle Martin of Roanoke; two sisters, Etta Bottas of CA, Nancy Martin of Richmond; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Moneta Rescue Squad, c/o Mike Harper, Treasurer, P. O. Box 497, Moneta, VA 24121. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Chamblissburg Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Scoggins officiating. Interment will follow in Morgans Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon and the family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
