Obituary of Nancy Wells Kendrick Newman

Nancy Wells Kendrick Newman, 87, of Bedford, passed away from her earthly life to her heavenly home on Monday, May 24, 2021. She was born on November 3, 1933 in Bedford County to the late Robert Floyd Wells and Mary Luck Wells. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Winston E. Kendrick, Sr. and Alfred (Al) N. Newman; sons, Winston E. Kendrick, Jr. and William (Billy) W. Kendrick; brother Robert (Bobby) L. Wells; sisters-in-law, Polly P. Wells and Claudine K. Preston; nephews, Jimmie and Buck Preston. She is survived by her daughter, Cheri L. Kendrick and husband, Rev. Bill Wood of Ft. Worth, TX; Al’s stepsons, Robert Gentry (Gwen), Wayne Irby (Marietta) and Jerry Irby (Melissa); sister-in-law, Marie K. Thompson (Clyde); nieces, Teresa T. Selove (David), Kathy T. Ramyar (Kami) and Denise (Dee) W. Thompson (Danny); nephews, Robert (Bobby) L. Wells II (Cindy) and Gregory K. Thompson; and her loving dog, Pearl. Nancy was retired from Garrett & Garrett, PC and a member of Wilsons United Methodist Church. She dearly loved her family, friends, animals and church. She enjoyed life, was very compassionate and generous to those in need and had an infectious smile and laugh. She will be missed! Special thanks to her church family, friends and neighbors for helping Nancy after the deaths of Billy and Al, especially Larry and Leeanne McGlauflin who sacrificially gave of their time to help for well over a year. Also, sincere and heartfelt appreciation to her compassionate caregivers Christy Elliott, Brandie Adams, Shirley Hurt and Hospice nurses for lovingly caring for Nancy in her home during the last months of her life. Christy cared for her as if she were her own mother. We are grateful! In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Wilsons United Methodist Church, 3316 Nicopolis Dr., Bedford, VA 24523, Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Pointe Dr., Tampa, FL 33607 or Bedford County Animal Shelter, 1307 Falling Creek Rd, Bedford, VA 24523 A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 27, 2021 in Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Russ Alden & Rev. Jack Davis officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
