Herbert Paul Dooley, Jr., “Pan-Danny”, passed away on July 23, 2021, at his home in Troutville, Va., after a long, hard-fought battle with COPD. Born in Bedford Co. on December 13, 1942, he was preceded in death by his parents, H. Paul Dooley, Sr. & M. Christine Noell Dooley; his brother, Lemuel Dooley & sister, Ruth Dooley McCown. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Nancy Meador Dooley; brothers, Ralph (Jewell), Jack, Conrad, Allen; sisters, Ann Wood, Lenore Burger, Roberta Settlemyre, Helen Dooley Hawkins (David); close in-laws, Linda M. & Steve Witt, Brenda M. Gardner (Gary Parker); many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends. Herbert retired from CSE, Inc. He loved all racing & for many years, was proud to work with several racing crews. He was always ready to hear or tell a joke or funny story. A Memorial Service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford with Chaplin Hunter Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.
