Obituary of Katherine Sue Burks

Katherine Sue Burks, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Centra Bedford Memorial. She was born on Monday, April 6, 1936 in Mullins, WVA daughter of the late Arnold A. Cooper and Addie Morgan Cooper. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Burks. She was graduate of Lewis-Gale School of Nursing and was a Retired Registered Nurse at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She and her late husband, Jimmy were Owners/Operators of Bedford County Lake for 20 years. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughters, Dee-Dee B. Witt & husband, Jeff of Bedford, Ann B. Hudson of Bedford, Jamie B. Firebaugh & husband, Kevin of Winchester and Laura B. Crouch & husband, Marvin of Bedford; her grandchildren, Courtney Key, Katie Higginbotham, Cameron Firebaugh, Makayla Firebaugh, Sara Smith, Stephen Crouch, J.J. Witt; her great-grandchildren, Austin & Blair Key, Hezekiah Smith, Vivian & Olivia Higginbotham, Stella Crouch; sister, Joyce Strickland and sister-in-law, Mabel Zimmerman & husband, Jimmy. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 1118 Ebenezer Road, Bedford, VA 24523. A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 11:00 am at the graveside at St. Thomas Episcopal Church Cemetery with Rev. Mark Wilkerson officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 24, 2021, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
