Robert Eugene Carter, 88 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Saturday, November 19, 1932 in Bedford County, a son of the late Norman M. Carter and Ada Bradley Carter. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian B. Carter and a son, Donald Ray Carter. He retired as Maintenance Director with Bedford County. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Carwile Carter; his sons, John Norman Carter & wife, Wanda, Ronald Eugene Carter & wife, Karen; Daughter, Kim Wood & husband, Kenny; his grandchildren, Gregory Carter, Tonya Stoneberger, Josh Carter, Ryan Carter, Amanda Croft, Hannah & Emily Wood; his sister, Ruth Fitzgerald as well as great-grandchildren, Tuesday, Tyler, Matthew, Alyssa & Corbin. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Vernon DeLong and Rev. Elwood Carwile officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 until 4 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
