Bertha Burk Underwood, 95 of Bedford, VA passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born on Thursday, November 11, 1915 in Floyd County, VA, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Burk and Ida Light Burk. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ermon McKinley Underwood. She served as treasurer of the Bedford Pentecostal Holiness Church for a number of years and was a member of the Womens Gideons. Surviving are her son, James Underwood & wife Frances of Bedford; a daughter, Shirley Barger & husband Chris of Goode; 5 granddaughters, 2 great-granddaughters, 3 great-grandsons, 1 great great granddaughter. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Gideons International . Funeral services will be held at the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11:00 am with Rev. Wayne Murphy and Pastor David Whitehurst officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, May 27, 2011 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the funeral home and at other times at the home of James Underwood, 1118 Galax St., Bedford. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford, VA
