Rhoda Overstreet Bowyer, 81 of Bedford, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on Sunday, October 27, 1929 in Bedford Co., a daughter of the late David Crockett Overstreet and Mary Virginia Ruff Overstreet. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Mitchell Bowyer, Jr., a son, David M. Bowyer and four sisters, Nettie Mitchell, June Dooley, Lois Dooley and Ann Eubank and one brother, Spencer Overstreet. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. Surviving is her son, Calvin Bowyer & wife, Carolyn of Bedford; her daughter, Helen Dooley & husband, Joe of Bedford; four grandchildren, Angela Davis, Tammy Slusher, Joey Dooley, & Kelly Dooley; seven great grandchildren, Andrew & Jacob Davis, Thomas Hackworth, Zachary, Camden, Sydnee & Cole Dooley; a brother, Wilson Overstreet of Bedford. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Bedford Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 161, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held at the graveside on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Peaksview Presbyterian Church & Community Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 11:30 until 12:30 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
