Obituary of Gary Lee Orange

Gary Lee “Big Foot” Orange, 63 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at his residence. He was born March 10, 1958 in Bedford County, a son of the late Glenn Wilton Orange and Effie Myrtle Ruff Orange. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Frances Orange, step-brother, Troy Carter and his birth parents, Dickie Carter and Nancy Martin. Gary was owner of Gary’s Auto Repair for many years. His passion was to be in the garage working on cars, rebuilding and restoring vehicles and always made himself available to help anyone he could, anytime and anywhere. He loved making trips to local yard sales and flea markets collecting antiques along the way. He spent many Sundays as a loyal Chevy NASCAR fan watching or attending races. He had a love for animals including his garage side kicks, “K.D” (his cat), “Sambo” & "Cami-Jo" (his dogs who recently passed) as well as Mollie. He was a member of Faith Hope Ministries. Above all of these, Gary’s love for his daughters was what he loved to show and share the most. He was a proud father who never hesitated to brag about his girls and always made sure to carry photos of them in his wallet to share everywhere he went. He is survived by his wife of eight years, Sheila Toms Orange; his daughters, Tiffaney Musgrove (Kevin), Courtney Orange (Josh Schmidt); his brothers, Larry Carter (Shirley), Kenneth Carter (Kathryn); sisters, Donna Zimmerman (Mike), Victoria Carter; step-grandson, Mason Musgrove; his mother-in-law, Dora Toms; brother-in-law, Ronald Toms (Becky); sister-in-law, Wanda Toms and a special lady he considered his second mom, Geraldine Spinner as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Centra Hospice Group for their special care and attention given to Gary during his battle with cancer. Those wishing to make memorials are asked to consider the Bedford Humane Society, 829 Ole Turnpike Road, Bedford, VA 24523. A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastors Ronald Toms, Joe Thompson and Randy Krantz officiating. Interment will follow in the Suck Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
