Shirley Powers Hartman, 72 of Huddleston, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on Saturday, October 20, 1938 in Sedley, VA, a daughter of the late Floyd Powers and Anna Ruth Scott Powers. She was a Vice-President of Weldex Corporation and was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. Surviving is her husband, Robert Everett Hartman, Jr; a daughter, Robin Ann Hartman & fiancee, Rick Comer of Thaxton; a granddaughter, Amber Lynn Jackson of Thaxton. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Joe Shoop and Rev. Emory Tarpley officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
