Obituary of Lucy Overstreet Peak

Lucy Mae Overstreet Peak, age 81, of Bedford, VA passed suddenly at home with her family by her side on Thursday, March 10, 2022. She was born June 14, 1940 in Bedford, VA, a daughter of the late Reed H. Overstreet and Helen C. Overstreet of Bedford. She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen G. Peak. She is survived by her daughter, J. Deneen Peak, and son, Timothy G. Peak, both of Bedford, and grandson, Nicholas R. Peak of Hampton, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Helen O. Goff, of Lynchburg, VA. Lucy was a graduate of Huddleston High School and Brandon Secretarial College in Roanoke, VA. She was a retired homemaker and spent most of her later years as a caregiver to her husband. She also held secretarial and bookkeeping positions at various companies, most notably Piedmond Label Company in Bedford, City of Lynchburg Public Works and the last being Shrader Bridgeport in Altavista, VA. She was a member of Wilson's United Methodist Church. Lucy was an instant friend upon meeting her and beloved by all who knew her. She was the backbone and guiding light of her family. Lucy was an avid crafter, often participating in local arts and craft shows. She enjoyed photography, gardening, playing cards, entertaining and spoiling her many adored pets. She was proud to have served as a volunteer at The National D-Day Memorial with her husband. Her most recent hobby was spending hours with her adult coloring books. The family would like to give special thanks to her companion caregiver, Michelle Knisely, and to her Amedisys Home Health nurses and therapists. They also request donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Huddleston Life Saving & First Aid Inc., P. O. Box 77, Huddleston, VA 24104. A celebration of Lucy's life will be held at Updike Funeral Home Chapel, Bedford at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Gardens in Forest, VA.
