Frances Turner Mitchell,88, of Huddleston, passed away Saturday, March 27th while sleeping peacefully at her home at Smith Mountain Lake. She was born on November 5,1921 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Perry Davis and Lillie Frances Holdren Turner. Frances was a lifelong teacher and retired from Virginia Western Community College. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo T. Mitchell to whom she was married for 57 years and her brothers, Guy, Ralph, and Snow Turner. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Lois Coffee of Lynchburg, daughters, Francie L. Mitchell of Herndon,Va., Debra L. Manley and husband Fred, of Winston, N.C., and Stephanie Mitchell and husband, Brad Faltermeier of Richmond, Va; four grandchildren, Melissa and Courtney Manley, Sean and Erin Faltermeier, two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews in both the Turner and Mitchell families. We would especially like to thank several people whose support was invaluable in allowing Frances to remain at home: Danny Mitchell, nephew, Becky Mitchen, longtime caretaker and friend, Seri Lamagna, neighbor and friend, and recent caretakers, Kim and Kandy Overstreet, and Linda Lacy for all the love and compassionate care they provided. The family request that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Smith Mountain Firebelles, c/o June Lenout, 1112 Gauardian Circle, Huddleston, VA. 24104. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 2, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston with Rev. Jackie Carver officiating. Interment will follow at Palestine Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family on Friday beginning at 12 noon at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston.
