Obituary of Elizabeth Miller Matherly

Elizabeth Ann Miller Matherly, 79 of  Thaxton, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022 at  Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  She was born on Friday, March 12, 1943 in Franklin County, a daughter of the late Ernest R. Miller and Pauline Maye Thompson Miller.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Marie Ragland, her grandson, James Edward Brown and two brothers and two sisters.

Elizabeth enjoyed planting flowers, knitting & crocheting and reading her bible.  

She is survived by her husband, Carlos E. Matherly; her son, Connie Earl Hodges; her daughters, Jennifer Lee Brown & husband, Ronald, Beverly Ann Foley & husband, Dale; her brothers, Ernest R. Miller, Jr., William H. Miller; her grandchildren, Donnie Ray Brown, Keshia Ervin, Delores Ragland, Brandon Ragland and her great-granddaughter, Kaleigh Brown as well as four other great grandchildren and special friends, Jean and Brenda and numerous nieces & nephews.  

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Mike Hufflman officiating.  Interment will follow in Holy Land Cemetery.  The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
