Obituary of Rebecca Mae Smith Toms

Rebecca (Becky) Smith Toms went to her eternal home with Jesus on August 9, 2022.

Becky was born in Bedford, VA to the late Louise Smith Hensley & Eugene Auer Smith.

She was preceded in death by  her late husband of 34 years Rodger Lee Johnson and a son David Wayne House. 

Throughout her life Becky wore many hats, but the greatest of these were those called Mom, wife & friend. Becky loved her chaps with everything she had. Though she threatened to knock both eyes in one socket or to turn this car around.  She was the best mom in the world. 

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Ronald Toms who was a saving grace and took care of her up to her last breath.  Her daughters, Rona House, Lockie Orange & husband Jay, Crystal Johnson-Stevens & husband Josh; sons John Wayne House & wife Elaine and Rodger Lee Johnson Jr.;  her brothers Gene Smith & wife, Diane and Joseph Smith;  sister JoAnne Traina & husband, Charles; her mother-in-law Dora Toms;  sisters-in-law Sheila Orange & Wanda Toms; umpteen grandkids & great grandkids. Becky also leaves behind a best friend of over 45 years, Barbara Dillon.  

To know Becky was to love her. She never met a stranger and she always had an infectious smile no matter how hard life got.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Updike Funeral Home Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Wayne Murphy and Rev. Joe Thompson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until Noon, prior to the service.
