Obituary of Brenda Musgrove Woodring

Please share a memory of Brenda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Brenda Musgrove Woodring of Bedford, Virginia passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 and is now in the presence of the Lord. She left this earth with her beloved sweetie and devoted husband of 36 ½  years, Paul Woodring, by her side. He not only was by her side at the time of death but they shared an inseparable life together. It can truly be said he was her very best friend, the love of her life. She felt 80 years of living was a respectable time to have lived. She set that goal and rallied to make it against many health care obstacles.

Born August 21, 1942 in Bedford,Virginia she is preceded in death by her father, Goggin Nichols (Nick) Musgrove and she is still survived by her 100 year old mother, Catheryn Padgett Musgrove.  Brenda was also preceded in death by Mer Charlotte Leftwich, who played a large role in Brenda's life.   Brenda shared a full life with her husband Paul, family, and friends. She enjoyed golfing competitively, her bridge club ladies meant the world to her, two step dancing, doing cross stitch and seeing a Sunday movie followed by dinner were some of her favorite things. Brenda graduated in 1960 from the Bedford High School and was proud that she was voted the best dressed in her class…laughingly saying she’d left the title of smartest for others. That graduating class of friends to this day still remains close.

Brenda worked as an Administrative Assistant at the University of Tulsa Oklahoma, was General Manager for her father’s G.N. Musgrove Exxon Fuel Oil Company. Served a short time at the Bedford YMCA.  Following her love of fashion from high school she opened a ladies boutique called Impression’s.  She always said. “ It was important to make a good impression”. Her career concluded at the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy trying to keep Tom Bovie and the loving staff there on their toes and caring for the customers. She was a member of the Bedford Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Paul Burton Woodring; her children, Warren Steven Overstreet (Emily), Leslie O. Bowyer (Allan), Timothy Paul Woodring (Elizabeth). She was blessed with numerous grandchildren, Christopher S. Overstreet (Katelyn), Laurian W. Green (Nick), R. Tyler Overstreet (Rebekah) , James Grafton Padgett (Whitney), Brenda Catheryn  P. Wolf (Will), Mallory W. Simko (Emery), Elisabeth O. Martin (Josh). In addition there are several great grandchildren: Grace, Josiah, and Walker. She had hoped to be here to see the birth of the next great grandchild, Charlotte. In addition she is survived by her sister, Kay Musgrove Denton (Wayland), nephews Beecher (Nicole) and Nick (Tiffany).

Brenda was nicknamed by several of her medical caregivers as the 20 miracle woman. The family would like to give  special thanks to the entire medical teams of Dr. Brian Buchanan, Dr. John Plankeel, Dr. Corey Passman, Dr. Gene Moss, and Dr. Linda Beahm. Brenda overcame many obstacles in her health to live such a long and fulfilling life. She was tough, competitive, funny, loving, and loyal.

The family will gather to receive friends and family to celebrate Brenda’s life at the Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford on the 29th day of August, 2022 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. A graveside service will occur at a later time.
