Obituary of Willard Dean Wood

Willard Dean Wood, 82 of  Bedford, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at his residence.  He was born on Saturday, April 20, 1940, a son of the late Lewis DeWitt Wood  and Florine Gross Wood.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Dean Wood and a brother, Edward Wood.  He was a 1959 graduate of Bedford High School.  Willard retired from the National Park Service/Blue Ridge Parkway as a Surveyor with 38 years of service.  He loved carpentry and spending time outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years,  Doris McKinney Wood; a son, Jeffrey T. Wood of Raleigh, NC; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Croft Wood; grandsons, Scott Wood (Megan), Seth Wood, Stevie Wood; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Wood; brothers, Cecil Wood and Steve Wood (Shirley); sisters, Audrey Howard, Lois Wood, Ellen Vaughan (Russell) of  Alabama, Naomi Davis (Dave) also of Alabama;  his McKinney side of the family; many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider donating to the American Diabetes Association,  PO Box 7023,  Merrifield, VA  22116-7023. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Peaks Presbyterian Community Cemetery with Rev. John Hester and Rev. Ray Lyons officiating.  The family will receive friends Friday, October 14, 2022 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
