Obituary of Joyce Ayers Mayhew

Joyce Ayers Mayhew, 80 of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital.  She was born on Wednesday, January 14, 1942 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Lemuel J. Ayers  and Lonie Dellis Ayers.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mahlon Lee Mayhew.  

She was a retired bookkeeper with David Gladwell Optometrist.  

She is survived by her sons, Richard L. Mayhew, Michael Shane Mayhew; her grandchildren, Ryan L. Mayhew, Lauren M. Setchel, William D. Mayhew, Lexi D. Adkins as well as her great-grandchildren, Carter Michael Setchel, Holly Adkins and her sister, Coleen Duke.  

The family will receive friends beginning at 11 AM on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and a memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm in the chapel.
