Virginia Edith Saunders Watson, 96 of Moneta, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Red Oak Manor in Rocky Mount. She was born on Thursday, December 24, 1914 in Franklin Co., a daughter of the late Tilden Saunders and Lou Ella Dudley Saunders. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Horace Abraham Watson. She was a retired schoolteacher in both Bedford and Franklin County School Systems and was a member of Morgans Baptist Church. Surviving is her son, John G. Watson & wife, Nancy of Glade Hill; three daughters, Mattie Lou Watson Gulick & husband, Jim of Casanova, LaWanna Watson Holman & husband, Peter of Lynchburg and Elizabeth Ann Watson & fiance, Jimmy Harvey of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Morgans Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 477, Moneta, VA 24121. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 4:00 pm at Morgans Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Mallory officiating. Interment will follow in Morgans Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
