Obituary of Barbara Cheek Kennedy

Barbara Cheek Kennedy, 83 of Bedford, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Cardinal Senior Living surrounded by family and special Nurses Aide, Wendy Bramlett & RN, Linda Quinn.   She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.  She loved being outdoors, gardening and working in her yard.  She cherished her children and grandchildren.

She was a retired bookkeeper with Bedford County Public School System and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. 

Barbara was preceded in death by her father & mother, Albert A. McDaniel & Elizabeth McFalls McDaniel; her first husband of thirty-eight years, William W. Cheek, her son, William W. “Billy” Cheek, Jr., late husband, Douglas Kennedy and daughters-in-law, Rhonda Cheek & Misty Cheek Radford.

She is survived by her brother, Samuel McDaniel (Sandra); her son, Jeffery Cheek; daughter, Terri Newbrough (Jeff), Jane Neighbors (William); son-in-law, Brad Radford; grandchildren, Stephanie Levey (Chris), Trevor Cheek (Katie), Morgan Newbrough (Drew), Landon Cheek, Brandon Cunningham, Jeremy Neighbors, Daniel Neighbors and one great granddaughter, Charlotte Levey.

Special thanks to Edith Weeks for being a devoted friend and visiting weekly and to the staff of Cardinal Senior Living for their excellent care and making our mother feel so special.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. James E. Compton officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
