Obituary of Nathan Glenn Smith
Nathan “Chicken” Smith, 67, of Bedford, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2023, surrounded by family and friends after a short battle with cancer.
Nathan was born on August 16, 1955 to the late George Edward and Zena Overstreet Smith in Bedford, Virginia. Nathan graduated from Liberty High School in 1973. At the age of 13, he worked after school at Griffin Shoe Store in Bedford. He worked at Frank Chervan for 27 years and then retired from Southern States Bedford Coop after 17 years in 2021.
In addition to his father & mother, Nathan is preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Edward Smith and Wayne Lee Smith and his first wife, Jane Saul Smith.
Nathan was a life long member of Flint Hill Baptist Church in Moneta, Virginia. He loved hunting, farming, raising cattle, family, food and playing Santa Claus for his family and friends. He was a kind and thoughtful person and will be remembered and missed by the many lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Sloan Smith; son, Patrick Todd Smith, (Jennifer DeGrie); daughter, Angela Smith Perdue (Raymond); step-sons, Brandon Sloan (Tracy), Brian Sloan (Eliza); sisters, Lois Smith Borough, Ruby Smith Dooley (Tim), Joyce Smith Witt (Gary); and brothers Ronnie Smith (Becky), Roger “Pete” Smith (Vickie) and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 PM on Monday, March 13, 2023 at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Moneta, VA with Pastor Vernon Delong, Pastor Tim Dooley and Pastor Brian Brown officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
