Sarah N. Cheatham Davis, 81 of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Campbell's Rest Home. She was born February 14, 1930 in Bedford County, daughter of the late Henry Joseph Cheatham and Theodora "Plummie" Cheatham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Davis; a brother, Earl Cheatham; a son-in -law, Clayton Markham; three brothers-in-law, John Willie, Warren and James Davis, and a sister-in-law, Annie Pearl Davis. She was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church and a retired housekeeper at Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center. Surviving are three daughters, Brenda Hardy & husband, Sam of Bedford, Carolyn Markham, Barbara Owsley & husband, Bill all of Big Island; two sons, Joe Davis & wife, Josephine, Tony W. Davis & special friend, Janice Dezelich, all of Bedford; nine grandchildren, Ivy Nguyen & husband, Phung; Kelly Kittle & husband, Joshua, Chris Markham & wife, Amy, Scott Markham, Jennifer Alderman & husband, Craig, Gary Davis, Jeremy Davis & wife, Candace, Sarah Owsley & Will Owsley; nine great grandchildren, Aiden, Elliott, Aliza, Isaiah, Ryan, Amber, Kattie, Cameron & Brennan; two step-great grandchildren, Kandice & Kaitlyn; a brother, Robert Cheatham & wife, Sally; five sisters-in-law, Gladys Cheatham, Mary Gardner, Fannie Gardner, Mary Davis, Velma Davis; five brothers-in-law, Russell Davis & wife, Betty, Andrew Davis & wife, Ella, Clarence Davis, Bob Davis and Sherman Davis & wife, Ruth. Special thanks go to her caregivers, Dora, Josie and Betty. The family would also like to thank Bedford Hospice with special thanks to Cathy Neas, RN and Dr. Linda Beahm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to make memorials to consider Sedalia Baptist Church Building Fund, 1072 Charlemont Road, Big Island, VA 24526 or Bedford Hospice House, P. O. Box 985, Bedford, VA 24253. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 11 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Mike Jones and Rev. Sam Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Sedalia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home and also in the church fellowship hall immediately following the interment. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
