Obituary of Ida Mae Murphy Garrett

Ida Mae Garrett, 89 of  Huddleston, left this world on Sunday, April 16, 2023 to be with the Lord.  She was born on March 29, 1934 in Bedford County to the late Eugene and Ida Barlow Murphy.   She graduated from Susie B. Gibson High School and was married to the late Boyd William Garrett. 

Ida is survived by her three sons, Tony (Dale) Garrett, Larry Garrett, Eddie (Kelly) Garrett; two daughters, Ann (Jesse) Calloway, Laverne (James) Brown; four granddaughters, Jessica Davis, Eleshia Garrett, Amanda Garrett, Lauren Brown; one grandson, Bryant Garrett;  five great grandchildren; five siblings, Billy Murphy, Emma Murphy, Mattie (Beulah) Ferguson, Lois Powell, Robert Murphy and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Ida was a housewife and served the community working for various families performing domestic work.  She loved cooking and gardening and enjoyed taking care of others.  She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and served as the church treasurer until the decline in her health. 

The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider a donation to Oak Grove Baptist Church, P. O. Box 204, Huddleston, VA 24104. 

The family will receive friends at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston from 11:30 until 12:45 PM on Saturday, April 22, 2023.  The homegoing service will follow at 1 PM in the chapel.  Interment will follow in Drew Family Cemetery.
