Obituary of Helen Sue Briel Griggs

Helen Sue Briel Griggs, 88, of Huddleston, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at her residence.  She was born on Thursday, April 4, 1935 to the late William McGuire Briel & Phyllis Yetive Pugh Briel.  She is also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur W. “Skip” Griggs, Jr.

Sue was a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Forest, Va.

She is survived by her children, Glynn Griggs Fraker & W.W. “Skipper” Griggs, III; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Byrl B. Taylor (Fred).

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 12, 2023 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Cemetery with The Rev. Matt Rhodes officiating.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.

The family asks that anyone with mobility issues may want to consider attending the visitation & not the graveside.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road SW, Roanoke, VA, 24018 or St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 1695 Perrowville Road, Forest, VA, 24551.
