Dorothy Mae Brown Blankenship, 87 of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at her residence.  She was born on Monday, November 18, 1935  in Roanoke, VA, a daughter of the late John L. Brown and Frances Lessie Burris Brown.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Adrian Bennett Blankenship; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Blankenship and her special son-in-law, Jerry Dickson.

She was a member of  Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church and retired owner/operator of Blankenship Grocery.  

She is survived by her daughters, Libby Dickson, Patricia  Dodd & husband, Robby; her son, Jeffrey (Petie) Blankenship; her special grandson, Blake Thomas Hurt as well as numerous nieces & nephews.  

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday May 20, 2023 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Jane Whitehead & Rev. Riley Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery .  The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
