In the morning hours of Sunday, June 4, 2023, a death angel was dispatched from heaven to carry our loved one, James "Jimmy" Lee Brown, age 75, home to be with the Lord. Jimmy was born on June 18, 1947 to the late John P. "Buddy" and Mable Flood Brown. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings Gertrude, Pauline, John Thomas, Virginia, Frances, Juanita, Samuel, and a Stillborn Baby Boy.

He is survived by three sisters, Mary Helen Coles of Lynchburg, Geraldine B. Spinner of Goode, and Gloria Jean Brown of Bedford, one brother, Charles H. Brown, of Verona, a step-daughter, Latasha Kamara (Shekubah, Sr.), a step-son, Anthony Leftwich, a stepgrandson, Shekubah, Jr., a devoted niece, Dalerie Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Jimmy joined the Otterville Baptist Church at an early age and continued attending until his health would not permit. He was educated in the Bedford County School System graduating from Susie G. Gibson High School. After high school he began a career in the construction field as a bricklayer. Later, he continued work as a welder for Norfolk Southern Railroad before being retired following a medical discharge.

He had an outgoing soul and was willing to help everyone. He also had a passion for race cars and watching NASCAR on TV. Many Special Thanks to Amedisys Hospice Service, his sister Gloria, nieces Dalerie and Valerie for his care

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Otterville Baptist Church with Rev. M. D. Mays and Rev. Henry Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friend from 5 until 7 pm on Thursday evening at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
