Virginia Leigh Rodgers Saunders, 104 of Huddleston, VA passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010 at her residence. She was born on Saturday, August 12, 1905 in Prince George Co., VA, a daughter of James William Rodgers and Nettie Talley Rodgers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Hammett Saunders, a sister, Gladys Overstreet and four brothers, Ted, John, George and Dick Rodgers. She was a retired school teacher with Bedford County Public School and was a member of Palestine Baptist Church. Surviving are her nieces, Margie S. Howell, Sandra S. Moore, Anne R. Spence, Geraldine R. Skinner; her nephews, Leroy Saunders, Lee S. Anthony, Roy Saunders, Robert Saunders, W. C. Wildman, Carroll Rodgers; a sister, Nettie Mae Rodgers. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Medi Home Health & Hospice, 5369 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019 or Huddleston Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 77, Huddleston, VA 24104. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston with Rev. Francis Martin officiating and Rev. Jackie Carver assisting. Interment will follow in Palestine Church Cemetery.
