Obituary of Joanne Steele Perry

Joanne Emily Steele Perry of Huddleston, VA went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2023. She was the daughter of the late James E. Steele and Effie Skaggs Steele. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lowell F. Perry and a brother, James Darrell Steele. 

She is survived by her two sons, Meredith Layne (Sherri) of Lewisburg, WV and Noel Dean (Angela) Perry of Bedford, VA; her sister, Julia Baldwin of Auto, WV and her children, Kevin and Valerie. She had 5 grandchildren who were her greatest enjoyment, Donnie (Jaina) of Lewisburg, WV, Gershom (Brittany) of Alconbury UK, Rain (Nick) Cornwell of Lewisburg, WV, Nicholas (Rachel) of Wendell, NC, Alexis (Lee) Tookes, of Lynchburg, VA. She was also blessed to have 4 great-grandchildren, Keira (Donnie, Jaina), Emory and John Mark (Rain, Nick) and Jasper (Gershom, Brittany). 

She retired from GE/Ericsson and enjoyed going to Tennessee for Country Music “Fan Fair” and was at the CMT Music Awards for many years. She loved to travel, and she and her sister, Judy would go on trips together. She was a member of Mentow Baptist Church for over 55 years. She loved her family and all the holiday get-togethers. Christmas was her favorite time of year where she loved shopping for her boys and their growing families. She couldn’t wait for them to open their presents! Joanne loved Jesus and she had numerous bibles where she would study the Word from different translations. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Mentow Baptist Church and a funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. Wayne Murphy and Davie Woodford officiating.  Interment will follow in Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery.  Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
