Obituary of Jean Bowden Witt

Jean Bowden Witt, 89 of Bedford passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 surrounded by her family.  She was born February 27, 1934, the daughter of the late Gussie McFarland Bowden and Jessie Hodges Bowden.  She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Allen Thomas Witt; her brothers, Gussie, Rodney and Joseph Bowden, a sister, Rebecca Bowden and her son-in-law, Thomas Allen Schlapman.

She is survived by three children, Mark Witt (Jackie), Michael Witt (Kelli), Linda Schlapmen-Venhorst (Kevin); her daughter-in-law, Kristie H. Witt; six grandchildren, Marcy, Kyndall (Devonte) Conner, Rachel McNeill (Will), and Charlie and Abby Venhorst; a great granddaughter, Eliza as well as many nieces and nephews; special places in our hearts, her niece, Margaret Carter, friend, “Miss Kitty” and Bedford Centra Hospice nurses, Susan, Sissy and Trinda.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and a funeral service will follow at 11 AM in the chapel with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating.  Interment will be in the Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery.  Kevin and Linda will receive friends at other times at their home.
