Obituary of Harold Curwood Clark
Harold Curwood Clark, 100, of Long Island, Virginia, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Cardinal Senior Living in Bedford, Virginia. He was born March 5, 1923 in Campbell County, Virginia,a son of the late Wiley Huddleston Clark and Edith Wathall Harris Clark. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby Wright Clark, a brother Grayson Clark and wife, Nancy and their daughter, Bonnie Gay Clark.
Curwood was of the Methodist faith and served our country in the U. S. Army as a private in World War II, in which he drove trucks for the 2489th Quartermaster Truck Company (Aviation) carrying much needed supplies and ammunition to the front lines. He also did mechanical work on the trucks as needed. On July 6, 2019 he was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal presented to him by Bernard L. Marie. Upon his return after the war, he resumed his job as a Checker for the Virginian Railway, later becoming Norfolk Southern Railroad.
Curwood was a Charter member of the Long Island Ruritan Club, a member of the Nanesmond AF and AM 77 Masonic Lodge and the Morse Telegraph Club.
He is survived by my many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well as his beloved dog, Rachel.

There will be a graveside service, with military honors at 2 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the Poindexter Family Cemetery, 614 Seneca Rd, Gladys, Virginia officiated by Rev. Wayne Murphy.
