Jean Parker Keen Alfred, 78 of Altavista, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 at Gretna Healthcare Center. She was born on Thursday, April 6, 1933 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Christopher Silas Keen, Sr. and Ruth Johnson Keen Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Blankenship, a brother, Christopher Silas Keen, Jr. and great grandsons, Logan Michael and Jordan Mitchell Kidd. She was owner and operator of Vista Florist and and was a member of Central Baptist Church. Surviving is her husband, Roy Francis Alfred; her children, Rebecca Kidd & her "favorite" son-in-law, Mike; Robert Mitchell, Jr. & wife, Yvonne, all of Altavista; five grandchildren, John Kidd & wife, Nichole of Panama City, FL, Heather Cofflin & husband, Jessie of Evington, Stephanie Koren & husband, Nick, Brooke Austin & husband, Marty, Chris Mitchell; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Grace & Hunter Cofflin, Madeline, Spencer & Turner Austin, Parker Koren. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Liberty Hospice, 500 Piney Forest Road, Suite A, Danville, VA 24540. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 10:00 am with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
