Obituary of Betty Lou Cox Campbell
Betty Lou “Patsy” Cox Campbell , 82, of Evington earned her Heavenly crown on Monday, November 27, 2023, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Calvin Elbert “Buddy” Campbell. What a reunion they’re having now in their eternal home! Born on December 27, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John Sinkler Cox and Lula Mae Gregory Cox.
Patsy is survived by four daughters, Ramona Burnette (David), Angie Chitwood (Joe), Carmen Campbell, and Monica Hall (Greg) and two grandchildren, Dakota Ward and Campbell Hall, all of Evington; a sister, Edith Logwood (Buddy) of Evington; brothers John “Jabo” Cox (Doris) of Lynch Station, Ed Cox (Carolyn), and Robert Cox (Sheila), both of Evington; sister-in-law Judy Bradley of Danville, and special friend, Norma Durham of Forest, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She retired from Nationwide Insurance after 38 years of service, mostly in Human Resources. She was known to her co-workers as Betty, but to everyone else, she was Pat or Patsy. Everyone at Nationwide loved and talked about her good ol’ slow, southern drawl. She retired in 1999 to care for her husband and his failing health.
As the family reflected on words that would best describe her, a few that came to mind were compassionate, fun-loving, witty, a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior, spunky, adventurous, loved a good challenge, and always put the needs of others above her own. She was a beautiful human being – if you had the pleasure of knowing her, you were blessed! She will forever be in our hearts!
Her grandchildren were absolutely her pride and joy. During her illness, on the bad days, they were the ones who could always bring a smile to her face, and put joy in her heart.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, November 30 at Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy, 1022 Winona Lane, Lynch Station, VA by Rev Wayne Murphy, Rev Roy Burton, and Randolph Coffey. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 29 at Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy, Lynch Station, VA and other times at the residence.
The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider St. Jude (stjude.org) or Salvation Army (salvationarmy.org) – two of her favorite charities.
Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
