Obituary of Stephen Tyler Johnson

Stephen Tyler "Kyle” Johnson, 28, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023. He was born in Bedford, Virginia, on September 12, 1995 to Stephen Thomas Johnson and Christie Baldwin Johnson, both of Lynchburg who survive.

Tyler is also survived by two sons, Christopher Kyle Johnson and Thomas Joseph Johnson; his brother, Brandon Johnson; his father’s wife, Amy; maternal grandmother, Suzanne Lindsay; maternal grandfather, Harry Baldwin and wife Cynthia; paternal grandfather, Brian Johnson and  wife Judith.

Tyler was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Sherry Whitmore and husband, Harry Berringer, as well as his maternal grandmother’s husband, Russell Lindsay.

Tyler was a graduate of Heritage High School where he was passionate about music. He played trombone and baritone in the marching band and served as section leader. He was also passionate about golfing, basketball, paintball, four-wheeling, swimming, camping, and hiking in the mountains. Tyler always looked out for other people, enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and making people laugh. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Hyland Heights Baptist Church, 11452 Wards Road N, Rustburg, VA 24588 with Lynnie Doss and Pastor Josh Carter officiating.  Arrangements by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Bedford.
