Obituary of Betty Julia "Judy" Mitchell Tuck

Please share a memory of Betty Julia "Judy" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Betty Julia Mitchell Tuck, or as she was known to all, “Judy” of Huddleston was born on January 31st 1939 and left this life to join Jesus, Manuel, and other loved ones in Heaven on Thursday, January 25th 2024.  Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Manuel Tuck, her son-in-law Danny Cocke, her parents, B.K. and Sealer Pearl Blankenship Mitchell and her sisters, Dottie Wooldridge, Teenie Smallwood, and Joyce Nichols.

Judy is survived by and was mother to Kathy Cocke, Teresa Montgomery (Trey), Billy Joe Tuck (Susan), Betty Sue Nance (Todd); she was Granny to Clifton Cocke (Joanna), Bryan Cocke, Will Montgomery, Jessica Montgomery (Aaron Akers), Rebecca Jackson (Steven), Mary Tuck, Jeremiah Tuck (Stevie), Joey Nance (Katie), Tia Nichols (Jarodd) and Gigi to Jadon and Caleb Cocke, Liam Lineberry, Timothy and Skyler Jackson, Mabel and Henry Jude Nance, Jemma, Jalaeni, and Jaycee Nichols.  She is also survived by her lifelong friend, Diane Keene as well as her special friends, Curry and Kelly Martin and another dear friend, Nancy Lee.  Her pets Sug and Holly Berry also survive.

Judy had a strong love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and loved her Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy and church family dearly. She was full of life and laughter. It is hard to describe in this space, how special she was. Her children consider her the best Mama they could have ever had. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren absolutely adore her. And so many of their friends said she was like a mom to them too. She took her children and grandchildren's spouses in as if they were her own children. Whether you were born into the family or married in, Judy always made you feel loved.

Married at the tender age of 15, she raised four children, maintained an immaculate and beautiful home, and when the time came, she was a devoted caregiver to her parents, her father-in-law, and finally her beloved Manuel. She was one of the strongest people we knew.

She was a bright and vibrant lady and always left quite an impression on everyone she met. After her husband’s passing she enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She never met a stranger and has friends everywhere she has traveled. The beaches were a favorite destination. She had a flair for style, from decorating her home to the clothes and jewelry she wore. She was always in fashion and stunningly beautiful.

The family would like to thank Centra Hospice (Bedford/Lynchburg), Centra Oncology Unit Lynchburg General, Centra Palliative Care of Lynchburg,  Pastor Roy Burton and Pastor Wayne Murphy for all of the loving care and support they have given to Judy and her family.

A service to celebrate Judy's life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy with Pastor Roy Burton and Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating.  The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 AM.

Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
