Obituary of Maria Desimone McKinney

Maria Desimone McKinney, 67 of  Bedford, passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.  She was born on Sunday, December 30, 1956  in New Jersey, a daughter of the late Americo Desimone and Josephine Caprio Desimone.  She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Willie & Alice McKinney and her brothers-in-law, Willard Wood, Donnie McKinney, Dack McKinney & Buggs Bowyer; nephew, Ronald Wood.

She was employed by her families businesses, the Rainbow & Dairy Queen for over thirty years and retired as a shift supervisor at CVS after twenty-one years.  She loved her customers, loved shopping and going out to eat.  She will surely be missed by the many friends and acquaintances she met over the years she met through her employments.   She was a faithful member of New Beginnings Church.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Lee McKinney; her daughters, Joni McKinney Boyd (Jamie), JoAllison McKinney Ruff (Bubba); her grandchildren, Troy & Bridgette Ruff; kitty cat, Silver Bells; her siblings, Corinne Richards (Tom), Gary Desimone, Donna Ramsey (John), Johnny Desimone (Trisha); her sisters-in-law, Gina Wood, Linda Carr, Faye Bowyer, Cheryl Bush (Bob), Wanda Goin (George), Lisa McKinney, Judy McKinney; brothers-in-law, Jimmy McKinney, David McKinney (Mary), Biddy McKinney (Debbie) as well as numerous nieces & nephews.  

The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Bedford Humane Society, 829 Ole Turnpike Road, Bedford, VA 24523. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at New Beginnings Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Richard Kingrea and Pastor Earl Ragland officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time at the church.
