Obituary of Robert Lyle Miller
Robert "RL" Lyle Miller, 76 of Moneta, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024 at Centra Bedford Hospice House. He was born on Monday, September 15, 1947 in Bedford County, a son of the late Robert "Buster" Alphard Miller and Mary Hazel Ferguson Miller. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert "Bobby" Miller, Jr., brothers, Samuel Alfred "Sambo" Miller and sisters, Mary Ellen Fariss & Norma Jean Bobbitt
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Swedberg, Stephanie Moir (Barry Cash); his sisters, Alice Morgan (Eddie), Bonnie Overstreet (Larry); brother, Jerry Miller (Terry); grandchildren, Ashley Jones (Robert), Amber Dudding, Holli Stewart (Joshua), Heidi Moir, David Dudding; two special great-grandchildren, Kaytlin Moir, McKenna Stewart and twelve additional great grandchildren.
RL served in the US Army and National Guard for 24 years. He was stationed throughout the world. During the Vietnam War, at Hambuger Hill, he was on the front line for 6 straight days and after assisted in flying ammo to the front line. He struggled with the after effects from this for the remainder of his life as well as most of our Veterans.
RL was awarded the title, "Master Angler" by the DGIF numerous times. He shared this passion and talent as a guide at SML during the 70's and early 80's.
RL was loved by many and will be missed. We can only look forward to meeting him again in Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Patmos United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Murphy & Rev. Danny Holdren officiating. Interment, will full military honors by the Ft. Lee Honor Guard, will follow in church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 PM on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
