Obituary of Cyrus Mont Fulton, Jr.
Cyrus Mont “Sonny” Fulton, Jr., 83 from Bedford, Va passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born March 20, 1941 in Bedford County, son of the late Cyrus Fulton Sr. and Thelma Abbott Fulton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Witt; a brother, Jimmy Fulton and two sisters, Julia Nicholas and Paige Cheek.
Sonny retired from J.C. Nichlos Oil Distribution. He was the former owner and operator of the Red Dog Restaurant “The best beer and Hot Dogs in town”. He was a former member of the Bedford Volunteer Fire
Department and Thaxton Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norris Johnson Fulton; his daughter Cindy Johnson; his son Greg Fulton and wife, Melody; son-in- law, David “Cotton” Witt and wife, Margie; Grandchildren, Mattie Witt Jenkins and husband, General; Colton Witt; Kristen Smith Herricks and husband, Zach; Caitlyn Johnson Carnley and husband, TJ; Madison Johnson; and Cierra Fulton; three great-grandchildren Little Gen, Trey, and Evy. He also had many nieces and nephews.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Bedford Volunteer Fire Department or Thaxton Baptist Church Building Fund.
A service to Celebrate the Life of Sonny will be held at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, April 23 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. Visitation will begin at 3:30.
