Harold Dean Martin, 72, of Bedford, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 at his residence. He was born on Sunday, October 23, 1938 in Bedford County, a son of the late Willie Snow Martin and Nellie Jane Maxey Martin . He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis Martin and John Odell Martin, and a sister, Lera Jane Lynch. He was employed for many years as service manager with Citty Ford in Bedford. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Witt Martin; two daughters, Debbie Bryant & husband Marvin, and Denise Creasy & husband Roger all of Bedford; four grandchildren, Christopher Bryant, Gregory Bryant, Christina Creasy, and Nicholas Creasy; a great-granddaughter, Keira Gray; a brother, Christopher (Jan) Martin of Venice, FL; two sisters, Pauline Mattox of Roanoke, and Betty Haynes of Salem. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Medi Home Health & Hospice, 5369 Peters Creek Rd., Roanoke, VA 24019. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Updike Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Murphy and Rev. Bart Weakley officiating. Interment will follow in Ephesus United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may call after 12:00 noon Sunday and the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
