Obituary of Oren Douglas Holland, Jr.
Oren Douglas “Doug” Holland, Jr., 91 of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at his residence. He was born on Monday, May 30, 1932 in Bedford County, a son of the late Oren Douglas “Oren” Holland, Sr. and Aileen McGee Holland.
Doug lived his entire life in Bedford on his family’s dairy farm where his love for agriculture began at an early age. Doug started his career as a dairy farmer, following in the footsteps of his father. As the farming landscape evolved, Doug transitioned into raising beef cattle. Beyond his role as a farmer, Doug was a skilled tractor mechanic. He could often be found in his workshop, tinkering with engines and solving farm equipment problems. His neighbors and fellow farmers relied on his expertise to keep their equipment running smoothly, especially during busy planting and harvesting seasons.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Creasey Holland; his son, Oren Douglas “OD” Holland III; his daughters, Mary Beth Lynch (Gary) and Julie Cullum (Jerry); his grandsons, Oren Douglas “Douglas” Holland IV (Katalin) and Sam Lynch; his granddaughters, Holly Lynch and Hannah Lynch; a great grandson, Oren Douglas “Oren” Holland V and a sister, Katherine McGhee; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, May 13, 2024 Pecks Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 PM Sunday at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
