Obituary of Shirley Abbott Overstreet

Shirley Abbott Overstreet of Bedford, VA born in Lansing, MI on March 10, 1951, passed away May 10, 2024 at the age of 73.  She was preceded in death by her father, James Edison Abbott, and her husband, Jackson Overstreet. 

She is survived by her sister, Patsy Abbott (Roger), her children - Chelsea Overstreet, Cindy Overstreet Daugherty, and Robbie Overstreet (Karen) Grandchildren - Cheyenne, Bayleigh, Brayden, Alexis, and Emilee, great grandchildren - Ashlyn, Grayson, and Olivia, special friends - Regina, Joyce, Susie, and Butch, and too many loved nieces and nephews to name.

Shirley worked for over 15 years as a bus driver and cafeteria worker for Bedford County Public Schools - a grandma to the many children she adored. She would lend a hand and give the shirt off her back to anyone she could, never hesitating to speak her mind and stand up for others.  Shirley was known to never turn down a trip to TJ Maxx or Olive Garden, dressed in her purple crocs ready to go!  She was an avid rooster lover, as well as a collector of unique salt and pepper shakers.  She loved going to the beach with her special friends, soaking up the sun with a strawberry daiquiri in hand.  She loved nothing more than her family, and would give anything to see them happy, especially her rock and her best friend, Chelsea Overstreet. 

Shirley will forever be missed and thought of. We love you, "to the moon and back."

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Danny Holdren officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
