William Everett Dalton, 96, of Lynch Station, passed away on August 15, 2011. He was born in Carroll County on July 3, 1915, the son of Lawrence Erby Dalton and Rosa Belle Lawson Dalton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse and Elray Dalton. He was married to Hazel Cundiff Dalton, who survives him, for over 77 years. He is also survived by four children - Jean (Aubrey) Wilson, Nancy Wiseman, Larry (Eula) Dalton, and Carl (Marcia) Dalton. Mr. Dalton also enjoyed 7 grandchildren, 11 great - grandchildren, and one great - great grandchild. Mr. Dalton built his home on his farm at Leesville, Va. and lived there from 1938 until late 2010. Due to declining health he moved to Runk and Pratt on Leesville Road, where he became PaPa to all the wonderful staff who cared for him and Hazel with such great kindness and understanding. Mr. Dalton was a member of Altavista Baptist Tabernacle. He was involved in the organization and building of the original church as well as Friendship Baptist Church on Wards Road. He also provided care for Hazel's mother for almost 20 years, as well as caring for his mother for many years. He was known for his generosity to any in need. He took great pride in having visitors in his home, and kept record of all visitors and guests. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 11 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston . Burial will be in Leesville United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday prior to the service beginning at 9 AM at the fuenral home and other times at home, 5863 Bedford Highway. If desired, memorials may be made to Altavista Baptist Tabernacle or Friendship Baptist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
